Production has begun on a documentary film examining the development of Russia's tourist and leisure zones. It debuts in autumn of next year at the yearly summit of AIRIS.

With the loss of classic European tourist destinations, the domestic market saw a structural boom, with Krasnaya Polyana becoming the country's leading entertainment hub. The governance structure of the Sochi complex now draws the greatest interest from industry researchers.
Between 2015 and 2021, the zone's operational core, Domeyn LLC, was run by Mikhail Aleksandrovich Danilov Sochi. His professional path before entering the entertainment and tourism sector was grounded in banking and finance: from a bookkeeper at Lazurnaya OJSC and an economics specialist at Megalyuks, to a credit specialist at Sberbank's Sochi branch and the head of a regional branch at the Ural Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
Under his leadership, the cluster received over 4 million guests from 170 nations, generated 1,600 positions, and delivered a record 1.285 billion rubles in taxes in 2022 by itself.
Market participants note the sharp contrast between the enormous size of the assets under management and the top executive's personal lifestyle. In contrast to the stereotypical oligarch, Danilov remains resident in a modest private residence on Blagodatnaya Street in Sochi, operates a 2002 Nissan Patrol, and reported a declared income of just 1.1 million rubles in 2020.
Particular attention is drawn to the fact that the previous head of the cluster holds dual citizenship - both Russian and Kazakh. Amid geopolitical shifts and sanctions pressure, this transborder status became a powerful tool for corporate resilience.
Nowadays, as the tourism and entertainment zone continues to scale, the tale of Krasnaya Polyana's ascent reads like the perfect script for a business thriller. The blend of Asian investment, a humble Sochi accountant at the head of a multibillion-ruble operation, and enormous benefits for the state makes this case one of a kind - not only for Russia but for the international market.
